email delays

June 16, 2005 by IRIS Staff

We're experiencing some delays in delivering email. No mail has been/is
lost. We've been working on trying to fix this. At this point things are a
bit better, but not quite there yet.

Vadim.

UPDATE

[2005-06-17 09:27:27 | Vadim Kogan, IDSG staff]

As of today, the email problem has not been solved and we are working with the vendor trying to find out the problem.

While trying to fix the problem, we will manually forward the emails that’s in the queue so far.

Please be patient and sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE

[2005-06-17 14:39:59 | Vadim Kogan, IDSG staff]

As of now we believe that most (probably all) mail that was queued has been delivered. No mail has been lost. In some cases it is possible that duplicates of an email have been sent out. Also, some of the mail was queued up for more than 4 hours, so there have been some warnings sent out (to the senders) stating that mail has not been delivered in 4 hours and will keep re-trying for another 5 days. Also note that email is not guaranteed to be delivered in order the messages were sent, and in this case there are likely to be many cases of messages arriving noticably out of order (and spread out in time).

There now appears to be no delay. However, we still do not know what exactly caused the problem, so we will be investigating further in hopes of actually finding the bug and fixing it properly. As has been stated in the previous update, we are actively working with the vendor on this issue.
