Install via Disk

  • Installing Windows 10 via DVD/USB
  • Post-installation Instructions

NOTE: Make sure your machine is physically disconnected from any network connection before you install Windows. Otherwise your machine may become compromised and need to be reinstalled again.

Installing Windows 10 via DVD/USB

DVD media may be borrowed from the Helpdesk after you have filled out the system activation request and received a response confirming network support.

The Windows 10 DVD is a special volume-licensed version of Windows 10 Enterprise for EECS. You should be able to boot from the DVD or run setup.exe in order to install Windows. You should not be prompted to enter a product key.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10.

When prompted to log into a Microsoft Account, you may log into your own personal account if available, otherwise click on “Create Local Account” and complete the boxes. Ensure that you use the approved Computer Name you registered with the department.

Be sure to follow the instructions below for installing updates and activating Windows.

If you require digital media, please bring an empty 8gb or larger USB drive to the Helpdesk and they will assist in creating a bootable Windows USB Stick.

Post-Installation Instructions

When Operating System installation is completed, log into the newly created account, connect your machine to the network and run Windows Update.

  1. Click the Windows Icon and search for “Update”. Open the updater and click on “Search Online for Updates”
  2. Use Windows Update to determine whether there are any remaining Critical or Important updates to install.
  3. Wait for the updates to install, and if you are prompted to reboot your computer, do so.
  4. Once the computer has rebooted, repeat these steps until there are no critical updates listed on Windows Update.

Next steps:

  1. Join the EECS domain (optional)
  2. Activate Windows
  3. Install software and other hardware drivers
  4. Use your computer!
