Sunsetting EECS Active Directory

After nearly three decades of running our own Windows Active Directory infrastructure, we are shutting down the EECS AD, and helping to migrate any domain needs over to the Campus domain.

What this means to you will depend on what access and services you are currently using. Please see the following for more details, and feel free to reach out to help@eecs.berkeley.edu for assistance or clarification. This is a fast-changing and messy situation, so we’ll continue to add and update information here as best we can.

Changing my machine from EECS to Campus

If your workstation or laptop is in the EECS domain, it will need to re-bind to the Campus domain instead, or be used with local accounts (no domain binding). In the Campus domain, we will need to assist you with binding your machine to the domain, so please reach out to help@eecs and we will work with you to determine the best path forward. We will also help make sure that Berkeley Security Software is installed on university-owned devices, to help protect you and to comply with UC system-wide cybersecurity standards.

Accessing my home directory or Windows shares on project.eecs

The EECS NetApp fileserver will itself need to change from the EECS to the Campus domain. Once this is complete, you can map network drive to the new location (Campus\mydrive instead of EECS\mydrive). We’ll work with you to update access to your drives, and help you reset access controls as needed.

We have a Remote Desktop server in the Campus domain, winterm-new.eecs.berkeley.edu — similar to our familiar winterm.eecs in the EECS domain. You can login there now via Remote Desktop, using your CalNet credentials (e.g. Campus\larsrohr and my CalNet passphrase).

Printing

We are finishing setup of a print server in the Campus domain, printers.eecs.berkeley.edu. You may install printers via Mobility Print now by going to http://printers.eecs.berkeley.edu:9163/setup (restricted to campus networks and VPN). The status of available printers in the Gateway Building is still being worked out, but we are adding new print queues there as, e.g. “lwgw3376”.

What if my EECS username doesn’t match my CalNet ID?

To continue using Windows shares such as EECS home directories or project spaces, you will need to have your EECS username changed to match your CalNet ID. Please reach out to help@eecs, and we can help schedule a time to make this change.
