April 10, 2013 by Rob McNicholas

The department’s web server (www.eecs, www.cs), mailing list server (lists.eecs), wiki server (wiki.eecs), application server (apps.eecs) and jabber server (jabber.eecs) will be restarted Wednesday, April 10 at 7am.

On Tuesday evening these servers will have operating system patches installed which require a restart. They will be restarted automatically at 7am Wednesday morning and should be back in service by 7:15am.

These servers will now be patched (and rebooted if necessary) on the morning following first Tuesday of each month, the same schedule as our Windows servers.

February 13, 2013 by Rob McNicholas

The department’s Jabber / XMPP server jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu will be down for maintenance beginning at 6pm Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013. Total downtime is expected to be less than one hour.

During this maintenance window, the [Openfire server software](http://www.igniterealtime.org/builds/openfire/docs/latest/changelog.html) will be upgraded to the latest version (3.8.0), and the server will be moved to a new host. This is part of an ongoing project to retire old hardware and migrate services to more modern infrastructure.

If this downtime is very inconvenient for you, let help@eecs know as soon as possible.

Web, Mailing List, Jabber outage May 9th, 6am

May 9, 2012 by Rob McNicholas

Due to a major reorganization in the IRIS Data Center, numerous IRIS services will be unavailable 6am-8am, Wednesday May 9.

The servers that support the department’s website, the IRIS website, jabber, ACG applications, the print spooler, the Windows Terminal Server, and the department’s mailing lists will all be physically moved to new locations. Extensive prep work has been done to minimize downtime to the absolute minimum, and we hope that most services will be up sooner, but we are allotting 2 hours for this work.

EECS Listserver and Jabber/IM down due to storage problem

July 10, 2011 by IRIS Staff

Starting sometime before 9PM, the root filesystem on rockyroad, the server that hosts both the EECS IM (Jabber) and the EECS Lists (Sympa) services, went into read-only mode, taking both services offline.

Staff are investigating the cause of this.

Jabber maintenance, May 12 6-7pm

May 12, 2011 by Rob McNicholas

The department’s jabber/xmpp server, jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu, will be offline for maintenance from 6pm – 7pm on Thursday, May 12.

During this time, the server will be upgraded to the latest version of [Openfire](http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/index.jsp) (version 3.7.0). This version [contains numerous bug fixes](http://www.igniterealtime.org/builds/openfire/docs/latest/changelog.html) which should increase the reliability of the service. In particular, there are a couple memory leak fixes that might solve a problem we have been having with our server running out of memory.

Please send any questions to help@eecs.

EECS Listserver and Jabber/IM down due to database problems

March 12, 2011 by IRIS Staff

Starting last night around 10:50PM, the [EECS mailing list service]( https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/15-faq/mailinglists/) and the [EECS IM service (Jabber/XMPP)](https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/15-faq/35-unsupported/04-jabber.html) went offline due to problems communicating with a backend database server.

Staff are looking into the problem. Please note, as [help@eecs](https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/help/) is a mailing list on the EECS listserver, staff may not be get problem reports sent there until after this problem is resolved. Please check here for updates until these services are back up.
