The EECS Helpdesk in 313 Soda Hall will be closed until the beginning of the 2006 Fall semester. This is due to the reduction in staff and decreased demand during the summer months.
The Helpdesk in 395 Cory hall will continue to operate during normal business hours.
The DNS name coeus.Berkeley.EDU has been a nickname for our
Network Appliance fileserver coeus.EECS.Berkeley.EDU.
We are going to give up the coeus.Berkeley.EDU DNS nickname so
as to allow the campus Sponsored Projects Office to use it
for a campus-level information system beginning May 23, 2006.

The Calendar web client is now mostly functioning. There are lingering issues with the room reservation system at http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/Resguide/roomsched.shtml
Due to various technical reasons, the service hosting the web client has changed. If you log in to the web client through the following URL
http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/calendar
Then you need to make no changes, and you’ll be redirected properly. However, if you have the calendar login page bookmarked, and are trying to reach something that looks like…
https://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/ocas-bin/ocas.fcgi?sub=web
Or anything with “ocas.fcgi” listed in it, you should either use the “/calendar” URL, or change the host portion of the ocas-bin URL to
use port 8081, a la…
https://www.eecs.berkeley.edu:8081/ocas-bin/ocas.fcgi?sub=web
If none of the above made any sense to you, your existing bookmark
doesn’t work, but http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/calendar works, then
change your existing bookmark to www.eecs.berkeley.edu/calendar; or just go there, delete your existing bookmark, and bookmark the new page.
There is an intermittent problem where the infamous “Message Catalog Unavailable” error messages seem to be occuring more frequently than before. I’m waiting on feedback from Oracle.

The Calendar web client is continuing to fail. A number of you may have noticed various errors today with the local client, such as being unable to schedule new meetings and recurring meeting notifications. This was unforseen, and was due to our running a diagnostic program, which took 3+ hours to complete. The diagnostic has finished, and we are waiting for information from Oracle tech support.
As part of the web client failures, the web-based room reservation forms at http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/Resguide/roomsched.shtml are currently non-functional. They will continue to be down until this problem is resolved.
If you are still unable to schedule new meetings, or are still receiving repeated pop-up reminders about a pending meeting, please quit and restart your calendar client. If the problem persists, please send mail to idsg@eecs.berkeley.edu. Thanks for your patience.
I will be taking our Oracle database down at 9pm on Sunday, April 23 to install the latest security patches. This is a relatively small patch, and the database should probably be back up by 10pm, but I’m scheduling 3 hours because…sometimes these things take longer.
During this time, the Network and Roster query and request forms will be down. All requests for web pages in those areas will be redirected to a page with information on the maintenance.
Send any questions or concerns to img@eecs.

The web interface to calendar is currently nonfunctional. The local clients should be working fine. All calendar service will be offline tonight (Thursday 20 April) starting at 8pm.
A variety of software issues have contributed to the calendar service meltdown over the past few days, starting with partial corruption of the server’s RAID array. At this time, the popup error messages that were occuring yesterday should be gone. The web interface, however, is failing to allow users to log in, giving the unhelpful error “You have timed out from your previous session. Please sign in again.”.
To address this, we will be bringing the calendar server down this evening at approximate 8pm to upgrade the server. With luck, the web interface will be up and running by tomorrow morning.
If, right now, you are unable to connect to the calendar server using a local client, please contact tmaher@eecs.berkeley.edu directly.
